FAQ
Is this medical or investment advice?
No. It is general information. It is not medical, legal, tax, or investment advice. For your own situation, talk to a clinician, a lawyer, or another qualified professional.
Should I buy health insurance?
No product names. The order of the decision is: in Japan, see what public health insurance and the high-cost medical care benefit already cover. In the U.S., see how your plan treats emergencies and large bills. Only then look at the gap.
Why do fees matter in a NISA or a 401(k)?
One extra percent of cost each year leaves about 18% less after 20 years and about 26% less after 30, if the pre-fee return matches. That is arithmetic, not a recommendation. The same comparison applies inside an iDeCo or an IRA.
Is the value tier the same as the evidence grade?
No. The value tier is the original author’s judgment of payoff versus money, time, and willpower. The evidence grade is how strong the source of the number is. A “best value” item can still be grade C.
Where does the writing come from?
It is translated and adapted from “高性价比人生指南 / HowToLiveBetter” by eternity4719, under CC BY 4.0, for readers in Japan and the United States. It is not an official edition and not an endorsement. This first batch is a slice of the book’s 765 items that travel outside China.
Do quiz answers get uploaded?
No. Answers and the score stay in sessionStorage in that browser. XP and the “done” marks stay in localStorage. There is no account.
Where do I switch language?
EN | JP at the top right. The current language is bold and not a link. The other one opens the same page in that language.
What if I need to talk to someone now?
The disclaimer page points to support lines in Japan and to 988 in the United States. A person rechecks the numbers against the official sites before launch. This site does not answer emergencies.
